5 things to look for in an Antivirus

Updated: Oct 25, 2019

In our current day and age we need protection for our electronic devices just like we need locks for the doors of our homes.

Nowadays there are so many options for purchasing different Antiviruses

that it can be hard to decide which one is best for us. There are also more threats to be protected from besides just viruses.

We at 5CheckTech want to help you in your selection by suggesting 5 important things to look for when making your purchase decision.

1. Malware Protection

Malware, or “malicious software,” is an umbrella term that refers to any malicious program or code that is harmful to systems (ex. worms, rogues, dialers, trojans, rootkits, spyware, exploits, bots).

2. Exploit Protection

Exploits are a type of malware that takes advantage of bugs and vulnerabilities in a system in order to allow the exploit’s creator to take control.

3. Web Protection Prevents access to malicious websites, ad networks, scammer networks, and more.

4. Ransomware Protection

Ransomware is a form of malware that locks you out of your device and/or encrypts your files, then forces you to pay a ransom to get them back. In the end, the Cyber criminal may or may not release your information after receiving payment.

5. Artificial Intelligence

The use of Artificial Intelligence in an Antivirus that uses layers of technology, like anomaly detection and other tools, to stop malware that hasn’t ever been seen before. Traditional Antiviruses require an updated database in order to react to the threats that have been found.

These 5 suggestions are just a few of the things to look for in a good antivirus.

Many people are aware of the importance of having a good antivirus on their laptops or computers, but many are not aware of the importance in having them installed in their Smartphone or Apple devices.

Which Antivirus should I choose?

If you are looking at traditional Antiviruses, which may not be up to date with the current digital threats, you can choose from McAfee, Symantec Norton AntiVirus Basic, Kaspersky Anti-Virus , Avast Pro Antivirus 2017, and many more.

If you would like to stay up to date with the current online threats through a form of Artificial Intelligence you can choose Malwarebytes Premium, which is one of few Antiviruses that actually provide that kind of defense.

Whichever you choose, just remember that we can no longer leave our electronic devices (not just our computers and laptops, but also our tablets and smartphones) unprotected. We must lock our digital front doors.
